LED lighting will dazzle Mercedes-Benz stadium’s bridge
According to the project leaders, it is extremely eye-catching along with being functional. Additionally, the whole thing is lighted up, as per the project details.
The new buildings being constructed are leaving no stone unturned when it comes to being cost effective. LED lights play an integral role in turning down the cost and making the place eco-friendly. To join the list of cost-effective architectural beauties is a new pedestrian bridge. Located on the northwestern flank of downtown Atlanta’s $1.5 billion Mercedes-Benz Stadium, the bridge is taking shape over Northside Drive.
The serpentine, ADA-compliant, city-funded bridge is being designed and modified alongside the work on the adjacent Home Depot Backyard, a green space for social gathering, community events, and park recreation. With hairpin turns at each end, the bridge spans five-lane Northside Drive, connecting the new stadium with the Vine City MARTA Station, nearby parking, and westside neighborhoods.
The main attraction of the bridge will be LED lighting. Just placed beneath and intrinsic to the roof of the skin, cove lighting will wash the interior ceiling/walls with controllable color LED lights. This light will penetrate the metal skin producing an internal glow for the enclosure.
The exterior of the bridge enclosure and ramps are surrounded with continuous controllable color LED strip-lighting, reinforcing movement along its serpentine form. The colored LED lighting along the bridge can be customized to mark special events, festivals, and holidays.
Also, AstroTurf is being installed on the slope, inside the eastern turn, in an effort to “minimize maintenance and provide a unique surface for implementing temporary logos for events, festivals, and holidays,” as reported by the architecture team.
